Sustainable Energy for All Forum

The Sustainable Energy for All Forum is the landmark gathering celebrating the global sustainable energy movement.

Over 1,000 high-level representatives from government, business, civil society and international organizations will gather in New York City for the 3rd Sustainable Energy for All Forum – its theme “Going Further, Faster – Together.”

The Forum will be a marketplace to help broker new partnerships and ideas, spur investment and drive action towards sustainable energy and realising Sustainable Development Goal 7. SEforAll Partners from across the globe will share their stories about how they are achieving results.

“Going Further, Faster – Together” will examine recent data on progress including the launch of the 3rd edition of the Global Tracking Framework on the delivery of universal access to modern energy services, doubling the share of renewable energy and doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030.

4thAnnual SEforALL Africa Workshop

The SEforALL Africa Hub hosted by the African Development Bank in partnership with the African Union Commission, the NEPAD Agency, UNDP, the SADC Secretariat (representing the Regional Economic Communities) and in collaboration with the SEforALL Global Facilitation Team will organize the 4th Annual SEforALL Africa Workshop from 29-30 March 2016 in Abidjan.

The workshop will review the state of play of the advancement of SEforALL country action in Africa, discuss how to accelerate the implementation and financing of the priorities identified in the SEforALL Action Agendas and Investment Prospectuses under development in many African countries, and explore how to ensure a maximum degree of synergies with other key initiatives on the continent, including the Africa Renewable Energy initiative (AREI) and the New Deal on Energy for Africa. In this regard, we will be collaborating with the AREI Independent Delivery Unit (IDU) in the organization of the workshop. The workshop will bring together African institutions, SEforALL focal points, development partners active in Africa, private sector and civil society representatives.

ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Week

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) and the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP), are jointly organizing the maiden edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Week from October 17th to 19th 2016 in Accra, Ghana. The event is supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), the Spanish Agency for international Development Cooperation (AECID), the European Union (EU), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

MAIDEN REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON GIS FOR ENERGY PLANNING TO OPEN IN DAKAR

ECREEE officially held the validation and training workshop on the use of GIS for energy planning from July 26th - 29th, 2016 in Dakar, Senegal, making it, in what seems an unprecendent move in the region, the first of such workshop to be organized at regional level.

ECREEE in collaboration with the project partners (University of Geneva, the Energy Centre KNUST, the Ministry of Energy Cabo Verde, and Noveltis S. A. S.), are jointly organizing a Regional Validation/Training Workshop scheduled from the 26th to 29th of July 2016, in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop is fully funded by the European Union. The training on hydro power resource assessment will also be held back-to-back as planned in the ECOWAS Small Scale Hydro Power program, which is funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

Objectives of the workshop

The main objective pf the regional validation workshop is to validate the outcome of the project ECOWREX 2 project, valorize the project results and strengthen capacity within the Member States on the use of GIS tools for promoting sustainable energy development.

International Workshop on Renewable Energy Development in Macaronesia and West Africa

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the General Directorate for Energy of Cabo Verde (DGE) organized the International Workshop on Renewable Energy Development in Macaronesia and West Africa, which took place at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), Praia, Cabo Verde on May 30 – 31.

The event brought together up to 80 public and private sector participants from Cabo Verde, the other archipelagos of Macaronesia, selected ECOWAS Member States as well as international institutions, including AFD, GIZ, ECREEE, EU, IRENA, JICA, Luxembourg Development Cooperation, UNIDO and the World Bank. The participants are decision makers and technical experts from utilities, ministries, regulatory agencies, project developers and scientists.

The Clean Energy Solutions Center (CESC) is hosting a no-cost webinar to discuss its Ask an Expert technical assistance program, which, among others, provided technical support towards the development of the ECOWAS National Action Plans on Renewable Energy (NREAPs) and Energy Efficiency (NEEAPs) and the ECOWAS Policy on Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access.

The webinar will feature presentations on how CESC’s technical assistance program links countries seeking technical support with policy experts that fit their needs, these includes experts in clean energy finance and policy topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, energy access, regulatory issues and integrated planning.

ECOWAS Workshop on Sustainable Wood Energy Management

A workshop on sustainable wood management is being organised by ECREEE in collaboration with the GBEP (Global Bioenergy Partnership) and its partners to provide a forum for sharing knowledge and information on sustainable supply of woody biomass for specific stakeholders. The workshop, which is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BLMFUW), will be held in Cotonou, Benin from 09 - 11 May 2016 and will provide information and enhance the capacities of relevant actors within the forestry and wood energy value-chain and come out with conclusions and recommendations.

ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Workshop

From the 27 - 29 of April 2016, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the International Renewable Energy Agency, and GIZ with support of the Spanish Development Cooperation, the Austrian Development Cooperation and Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Energie (ADEME) will organize a 3 day workshop on the Implementation of the Sustainable Energy Action Plans and SE4ALL Investment prospectus.
 
The workshop comes at the backdrop the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Policy (EREP) and the ECOWAS Energy Efficiency Policy (EEEP), adopted by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in July 2013. Based on a mandate by the ECOWAS authorities to coordinate the implementation of the regional policies as well the SE4ALL Initiative in West Africa, ECREEE has supported the 15 ECOWAS Member States to develop National Renewable Energy Action Plans, National Energy Efficiency Action Plans, and the SE4ALL Action.

Webinar Training on RETScreen 4

ECREEE in collaboration with Clean Energy Solution Center (CESC - USA) and RETScreen International is implementing a two-day Webinar Training of Trainer on Clean Energy Project Analysis with RETScreen 4, from March 22, 2016 to March 30, 2016.

The Webinar Training will be handled in English (22 and 23 of March) and in French (29 and 30 of March).

Time: 10 AM to 5:30 PM UTC (GMT)

The training is designed to be an updating of the previous RETScreen training, using the more recent version of the tool. It will be delivered by an expert accredited by RETScreen International and with a long experience on RETScreen trainings.

The prerequisites for following the webinar training are: Previous exposure to or use of RETScreen 4 (www.RETScreen.net );  RETScreen 4 and MS Excel (2003, 2007, 2010, or 2013) installed and operating; Previous experience with clean energy projects; good internet connection with sufficient high-speed bandwidth.
