UNIDO is the United Nations’ specialized agency with the mandate to promote industrial development in the world’s developing and least developed nations and is one of the leading agencies in the field of energy access, renewable energy and industrial energy efficiency.
UNIDO coordinates the energy component of the GEF Strategic Programme for West Africa (SPWA) – Energy Access. UNIDO has provided technical assistance for the establishment and operation of the Regional Centre for Small Hydropower, based in Abuja, Nigeria and for the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE).
They also fulfil an important role in the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Initiative
